Jury Selection after Batson. On Friday, November 8, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Mercer Law School/Macon Bar Association will present a seminar on jury selection after Batson v. Kentucky. Mercer Professor James Fleissner will provide an update on state and federal law in civil and criminal trials in this area. Judge Bryant Culpepper will comment on professionalism aspects of jury selection. Finally, Pete Peterman and Althea Buafo will present prosecution and defense perspectives on jury selection. The fee is $50 and the seminar provides 3.5 CLE hours, including 2.5 trial hours and 1 professionalism hour.
Legal Ethics. On Friday, December 6, from 3:30 - 5:45p.m., the Mercer Law School/Macon Bar Association will present a legal ethics seminar. Professor David Hricik will address Confidentiality and Privilege in Using Cell-Phones, Cordless Phones, E-Mail and Other Technologies. Professor Jack Sammons will give an update on recent Formal Advisory Opinions and changes in the Formal Advisory Opinion Process in Georgia. Professor Patrick Longan will talk about recent changes to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and if adopted in Georgia, the effect on the Georgia Rules. The seminar offers 2 CLE Hours - including 1.5 Ethics Hours and .5 Professionalism Hours.
