The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program of Greater Macon is helping some of the most important members of the community _ our children. Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a one-to-one mentoring program that matches volunteers with children ages 5-12 to be a helper, teacher, and friend. Big Brothers/Big Sisters has been serving Macon and its surrounding counties for over 40 years. Children in the program have been shown to be 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs; 27% less likely to begin using alcohol; 52% less likely to skip school; less likely to hit someone; more confident of their performance in school work and life; and are more likely to get along better with their families. There are a number of ways members of the Bar Association as a group can help, such as sponsoring an outing for "ready-to-be-matched" kids, volunteering at one of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters events, or making a donation to buy needed supplies. Of course, they are always looking for Big Brothers and Big Sisters to mentor children. The Executive Director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Tanja Battle, can answer any questions you may have about the program. Her phone number is 745-3984, and the website address is www.bbbsmacon.org.
